Yakizome 焼き初め
Kakizome 書き初め literally means the first writing of the year. Kakizome-taikai 書き初め大会 are the annual calligraphy competitions(?) where everybody writes the same thing, these are only done by people who do calligraphy, which these days means elementary schoolers, some middle schoolers, and old women.
Fairly irrelevant, but I have won awards at both Kakizome-taikai I have entered.
Yakizome 焼き初め is a word I made up that means first burn of the year.
I got my first sunburn of the year today, and to celebrate, I wrote the word "Burn".
My arms hurt.

Old
I turned 19 a couple of days ago, and to celebrate, I wrote a joke.
The usual character is 老 which has this piece ヒ at the bottom. My name uses a variation of the piece, ピ and so I swapped them.
The red dot is in the lower left hand corner, so please turn your heads.
Come on people, I'm a calligrapher, not a computer person, and don't know how to rotate things. Sorry, I will try and work on that.
Welcome!
Welcome, this is the first post, and thus mostly useless, of a blog concerning, among other things, calligraphy and photography in Japan. It will be a place for me write about them, and post pictures of my work.
Lets see if I can keep this up as diligently as my last one!
